Pakistan attaches great importance to further strengthening bilateral relations with Ukraine.
This was emphasized by the Commander-in-Chief of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, General Qamar Javed Bajwa.
And this is primarily due to the key role that Pakistan plays in regional politics as a country with a strong army.
The Pakistani Armed Forces were formed in 1947, when Pakistan gained independence from the British Empire.
Since then, they have played a crucial role in the modern history of Pakistan, primarily due to the great wars with India in 1947-1948, 1965 and 1971.
The armed forces have repeatedly seized control of the government, resulting in what analysts call a deep state.
The need for border management has prompted the creation of paramilitaries to combat public unrest in the northwest, as well as the security of border areas in Punjab and Sindh.
In 2017, there were about 654,000 active servicemen in the Armed Forces of Pakistan, including 25,000 to 35,000 personnel in the Strategic Plans Division and 482,000 servicemen of various paramilitary formations.
The military has traditionally had a large pool of volunteers, but the call has never been implemented, although both the Pakistani Constitution and additional legislation allow it to be called up for conscription in case of martial law.
The Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan will account for 18.5% of the country’s government spending in 2018. They are highly valued in Pakistani society.
Pakistan is the sixth largest donor to the United Nations peacekeeping force, with more than 5,000 personnel deployed abroad.
Other foreign deployments consisted of Pakistani servicemen who served as military advisers in various African and Arab countries.
The Pakistani military has supported combat divisions and brigade forces in some Arab states during the Arab-Israeli wars, and assisted US-led coalition forces in the first Gulf War against Iraq, and has been active in the Somali and Bosnian conflicts.
Hence the issues of mutual interest between Ukraine and Pakistan, including cooperation in the field of defense security, military training of the armed forces of both countries and military-technical cooperation.
Realizing Pakistan’s efforts to establish peace and stability in the region and acknowledging the readiness of official Kyiv for further development of relations, Ukraine invited to visit the International Aerospace Salon “Aviasvit – XXI” and the XVII International Specialized Exhibition “Weapons and Security – 2021” on April 27-30, 2021. ». This will help identify new promising areas of cooperation.
Bilateral relations between Ukraine and Pakistan are in a dynamic process, marked by a high level of mutual understanding. One of the main directions of Ukrainian-Pakistani cooperation is military-technical cooperation.
Realizing the potential resources of the material and technical base of Ukrainian enterprises and skilled workers working in the military-industrial enterprises, Pakistani experts only in 2020, made 17 working visits. This allowed the guests to clearly see the capabilities of Ukrainian enterprises in the implementation of current and future contracts.
First of all, this is due to the large amount of propaganda work aimed at undermining the authority of Ukraine as a state with high industrial and scientific potential. This is especially evident in the Russian Federation, which is constantly trying to “throw stones” at Ukrainian producers. And what’s strange here is the usual competition. No, probably not ordinary! Because they had no idea that in a short time Ukraine would be able to revive the industries in which it had priorities and achieve significant success in the market of weapons and military equipment.
Ukrspetsexport, a part of Ukroboronprom, has recently been increasing the dynamics of cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, a long and painstaking work, the results of which are not immediately visible. Because working on such subtle human relationships takes time and patience.
In 2020 alone, ten Ukrspetsexport specialists visited Pakistan. As a result, this year the Ukrainian side is overhauling the IL-78 of the Pakistan Air Force, winning a tender for the repair of another similar aircraft. Of course, these are small contracts, but they provide an opportunity to show your potential.
The high level of partnership between Ukraine and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan was confirmed by the IDEX-2021 International Arms Exhibition, which took place on February 25 in Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates). A number of cost-effective agreements have been reached between the two countries, and a $ 85.5 million contract has been signed for the supply of spare parts for the serial repair of the first batch of T-80UD tanks.
Currently, Ukrspetsexport regularly participates in tenders conducted by the General Procurement Department of the Land Forces of Pakistan.
In total, 12 projects worth more than $ 150 million are currently being developed in the armored sphere of military-technical cooperation alone.
General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) accepted the invitation to visit Ukraine which serves as a factor of strengthening confidence in Ukraine as a reliable long-term partner of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
During the visit, it is planned to discuss areas of bilateral cooperation with the participation of the leadership of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the State Concern “Ukroboronprom” and the State Company “Ukrspetsexport”.
The visit will provide an opportunity to acquaint the Commander-in-Chief of the Land Forces of Pakistan with the products of defense industry enterprises, in particular, with such products as ATGM “Skif M”, ATGM “Corsair”, OBT BM “Oplot”, BTR-4, and unmanned aerial vehicle PD-2.
The Pakistan defense industry intend to continue cooperation with Ukraine. Especially in the development of technology and production of military products, as well as in the subsequent maintenance of the main battle tank “Al-Khalid”, which is supplied to the Pakistani army and exported to other Muslim countries.
